It's A Girl Thing 2018 | My Fave Thing About Being A Woman

So I was invited to attend It's A Girl Thing (IAGT) last October 19 (Press Launch) and October 20 (Festival/Live Show).

IAGT featured world-renowned social media stars who shared insightful talks about their experiences. Among the all-female lineup were international Youtube personalities Megan Batoon, LianeV, Meredith Foster, Asia Jackson, Andreah; our pride Janina Vela, Renee Dominique, Hannah Pangilinan, AC Bonifacio, Dani Barretto, Eunice JorgeAnne Gauthier, and Solenn Heussaff. The event was hosted by Suzy Gamboa and Bea Benedicto. The event aims to inspire and empower young women to be confident in who they are and make a difference in the world with their own uniqueness.

I was invited by one of our partner agencies to attend this event to take a look at opportunities for the brand I'm handling and gosh, was I ecstatic! Not only it is in line with my brand, it also coincides with my personal advocacy of empowering young women (#DearYoungWomen)! ❤ It's amazing how the stars aligned to make all these possible. God truly works in mind-blowing ways. 🙏

Here's what went down at the event:

Being the crybaby that I am, I got teary-eyed when Janina Vela made her spiel about her experience with depression. Well, it wasn't only me but most of the crowd as well. While they sang with her while she sang "Unstoppable", I was standing there thinking to myself, "Wow, a lot of girls here can relate to her!" I wonder if they're feeling depressed too..

I had goosebumps when Megan Batoon called in her special guests. Imagine, she invited some of her Filipino followers to dance with her during the show! It was awesome. So unselfish of her to share the spotlight!

Of course I enjoyed the closing number of Gracenote singing "Taciturn". I've always loved listening to Gracenote's songs!

I enjoyed the event TBH. Thought I was too old for it but no, it's so empowering, I left the venue feeling inspired and motivated to be a woman who's blessed to have a voice especially in this day and age of social media. It's really nice to have an event where you can gather all girls and be able to communicate with them via personalities they look up to.

There was a question asked during the event,

This got me thinking.

Well, for me it's got to be the ability to empathize and to take a look at something in different perspectives; the way women's brains are wired allowing them to multitask -- which, according to a study, is thanks-to our estrogen levels -- and our ability to anticipate the needs of others because it's in our nature to nurture.

Not that men do not have such abilities, but I think the aforementioned are more inherent in women. I think this is also the reason why women cope more easily than men. They can look at the brighter side of things easily; they process their feelings faster because they're not afraid of facing them head-on. They are not afraid of appearing weak, they welcome advice and are not scared to ask for (and share) emotional support.

The presence of social media is a great tool for us women to have a voice. However, I also find it sad that we see other women using social media to bash other women, to put other people down without realizing that the words we post online are powerful. They can make or break a person. And that the things we post are not only just about what we think about things or other people, but also a reflection of what and who we are as a person. I really hope we use this tool in supporting each other. Women should support women. We should not pull each other down no matter what our reasons are. I think if we have enough respect for each other - men and women alike - this world will be a much better place to live in.

Like what I experienced during the event -- young women standing united as one, being inspired and empowered by the women they look up to. Women who use their voices to build fellow females up. Those who use their fame for a purpose. Those who are proud of their struggles and imperfections to motivate the young generation to keep going, pushing, moving. Those who serve as inspiration to young women still building their dreams. Those not afraid to show that they care a lot -- a whole lot -- after all, it's a girl thing!
